High-Performance Computing Facility

UMBC’s High-Performance Computing Facility (HPCF) is the community-based, interdisciplinary core facility for scientific computing and research on parallel algorithms at UMBC. In 2025, the all of its resources were integrated into a single cluster that is a mix of NSF-MRI funded, faculty-funded, and university-funded hardware. See this site for detailed information on how to access and use the HPCF resources.

UMBC Supported Generative AI Tools

UMBC currently supports a number of generative AI tools for faculty, staff, and students. Some versions are free and others require a fee.  These include Amplify, OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini Basic and Premium, and Microsoft Copilot.  See the UMBC DoIT page on GenAI Tools for information.

UMBC AI News Group

This site has news items on AI relevant to UMBC.  Anyone can view the items and members of the UMBC community can subscribe to get new items delivered via email. Most of the news items are also shared in the ai.umbc.edu social media outlets on LinkedIn, Facebook, BkueSky and X.

Guidelines for using AI tools in teaching and academic administration

UMBC shared guidelines for use of AI tools in the classroom and in academic administration, developed through consultation between faculty and staff and reflecting emerging best practices of peer institutions. Because instructional approaches and disciplinary contexts vary, they are not a policy, but are intended to support faculty decision-making and provide a shared framework for the use of AI in teaching and learning.

UMBC AOK Library AI resources

The UMBC AOK Library has a site on “Artificial Intelligence (AI) & AI Literacy”. It is intended as a quick guide to all things related to artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, and the ethics of using GenAI in higher education.
