UMBC faculty receive NSF award for digitial twins to study neurodegenerative diseases


UMBC Professors Ansu Chatterjee, Karuna Joshi, and Animikh Biswas received an NSF award to study the use of digital twins to diagnose, treat, and increase the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis. 

Digital twin models can leverage the exponential growth of biomedical data and AI and data science techniques and provide new insights into these diseases and their treatment and prevention. The three-year award, Aspects of Digital Twin Studies for Neuroimages, will provide almost $900k in funding.
